Festus R-VI Hall of Fame Inductee - Dan L. Govero
Daniel L. Govero was born August 25, 1944 in Festus, MO to Raymond Lawrence and Louise Katherine Govero. He is the 2nd youngest of six siblings. Mr. Goero’s father was a barite miner and his mother was a homemaker. He also has a step mother, Alicia (Klien) Govero. Dan’s daughter Melissa is a teacher in the Fox C-6 School District.
Dan graduated from Festus High School in 1962. While in high school Dan assisted with set designs for the theater department. Following graduation from high school, Dan attended the University of Missouri – Rolla where he studied engineering for a year.
Dan was an active member of the National Guard Corps of Engineers from 1965 to 1969, and his unit was activated in 1968 during the Vietnam Crisis. He graduated from Ranken Technical School of Mechanical Trades in 1967 and became a Registered Land Surveyor in 1980.
Dan is the President of Govero Land Services, a Surveying and Civil Engineering firm located in Imperial, MO that he founded in 1988. Govero Land Services, Inc. specializes in all forms of Surveying and Civil Engineering including, Topographical, Boundary, Mapping, Aerial, Construction Staking and Land Development, for schools, residential and commercial.
Dan has served as President of both MARLS (Missouri Association of Registered Land Surveyors.) and the St. Louis Chapter of MARLS. He has served as Education Chairman of the MSPS (Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors) since 1982. Dan also served on the Home Builders of America Board for 16 years, advancing to Vice President of Associates.
Dan is involved in various local organizations having been a former Chairman for both the EDC (Economic Development Corporation) and the MASRF (Mastodon Arts/Science Regional Fair). In addition, he is the Chairman of the Jefferson County Port Authority. He serves as President of the Board for the JCGDA (Jefferson County Growth and Development Association), and serves on the Board of the Twin City Area Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Arnold Chamber of Commerce. Dan is a member of the Board of Directors for Eagle Bank and Trust and was appointed in January 2010 to the MO Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors & Landscape Architects by Governor Jay Nixon.
Dan has received numerous awards for his commitment to community and professional causes. Some of those honors include: 1991 MARLS Surveyor of the Year; 1996 Robert E. Meyers Service Award; 1998 Home Builder’s Association President’s Award; 2006 Distinguished Individual Award – Mastodon Art/Science Regional Fair; 2010 – 110% award from KJFF Radio and The 2010 Jeffersonian Award which recognizes outstanding efforts and commitment in promoting Economic and Civic Progress in Jefferson County.
Dan is a proud supporter of the Festus YMCA, Pony Bird, Kids House, and various youth associations.
His current hobbies include gardening, flowers and auto racing, where he serves as an instructor with the Sports Car Club of America. His participation in auto racing takes him around the country to various racing venues.
